#THE IPCRESS FILE SPY ACTION MOVIES MOVIE#
This review is more about me and my experiences which makes the movie mean much more to me than to someone who did not live in that time and place. Who would think that our old barracks (where I lived for free.) would now be worth $700,000 for a single apartment? Seeing East Berlin as a free city was quite an experience - in fact, the hotel where we stayed is in what was formerly East Berlin.īerlin is a beautiful city, filled with history (as is the rest of Europe) and has recovered from nearly total destruction to be what it is today. Last year I visited my old base in Berlin which is now in the process of being converted to high-end condominiums. Seeing Berlin as it was when I was there brings back many memorys of that time. He spies reluctantly in the film, forced to choose between prison and a should you. Anytime one lives through such a period of history, actually being there as history was made leaves an indelible mark in your memory. His cheeky attitude is the polar opposite of Bonds establishment swank. Looking back on that period with some fellow soldiers that had spent time there also, this movie was recommended. There’s Michael Caine, aka Harry Palmer from The Ipcress File, sitting in a swanky city restaurant delivering the classic Cold War era line: I gather. I spent 18 months in Berlin from 1963 to 1965 (just after the wall was in place) while in the U.S. The Ipcress File, British spy film, released in 1965, that was considered among the best of the genre, noted for a realism that was absent in the James Bond. After six weeks (unless you binged it on ITV Player), The Ipcress File has finally reached its dramatic conclusion with a bitter twist to Harry.
